When people think about Nevada, they think about hot, sunny days, gambling, glitz and glamour. They don’t usually think about winter unless it’s in the context of a winter escape. But in Reno, Nevada, winter is a big deal, and not just because you get a break from those desert temperatures that can roast much of the state — because of snow, mountains, down coats, pine trees, and faux-fur linings.
Lake Tahoe. If ever there was a winter wonderland, Lake Tahoe is it. Nature just doesn’t get much more breathtaking than this deep blue lake surrounded by majestic snow-capped peaks. This all makes for boundless winter fun, from world-class ski resorts to sleigh rides to sledding … the list goes on!
Mt. Rose. The closest ski resort to Reno is Mt. Rose. With the highest base elevation in the Tahoe region (8,260 feet), this mountain gathers snow early and quickly. For added convenience, a regularly scheduled shuttle brings skiers from the city to the mountain each morning.
Reno. We could easily make this blog all about the winter outdoor activities around Reno, but we realize that’s not everyone’s idea of fun. So, instead of listing out the hiking in Grimes Point or regional parks like Bartley Ranch, let’s turn to the city itself. For the museum goers, there is an award-winning art museum, the internationally recognized National Automobile Museum and much more. With the recent tech boom, there has also been an explosion of eateries, microbreweries and shopping to keep you busy well into the spring.
Residents at our communities at Latitude 39 and Harvest at Damonte Ranch have a number of top-of-the-line amenities and comforts that make it easy to stay home. But when they venture out, there are so many great activities to enjoy in the city and beyond.
