One of the first questions people ask about a city is, “Where are the best places to eat and shop?” Tucked into this question is, “Where are the unique places to eat and shop in the city? Where do the locals go?”
Today we’re going to travel to one-time locus of the gold rush and the capital of California, Sacramento, and look at a few of the best places to eat and shop.
Old Sacramento. The 28 acres along the Sacramento River comprise a National Historic Landmark district that brings together history, food, shopping, activities and a vibrant urban feel that is wholly unique to the city. With dozens of restaurants, boutiques and entertainment venues, it’s easy to make Old Sacramento your main hangout.
Midway Antique Mall. With almost 100 antique dealers selling jewelry, furniture, books, clothing and more, the Midway Antique Mall is a dream come true for shoppers. Antique collectors and anyone looking for an utterly unique item can find something for their home or for a gift. Warning: It is possible to spend an afternoon looking through the enormous selection of one-of-a-kind goodies here. But if you still have a hankering for antiquing, there are several other great places to go, especially the Sacramento Antique Fair, which is an outdoor spectacle held the second Sunday of every month. Kind of like a farmers market for cool old things.
OK, but what about specific places to eat? We’ve been putting off answering this question because, well, there are just too many answers we can give. Nonetheless, here are three Sacramento staples:
- Moxie. Cozy and delicious, this Sacramento staple has a rotating menu and a fiercely loyal clientele. One meal here and you’ll see why.
- Biba Ristorante Italiano. For those special occasions or any time you want to amaze your taste buds …
- The Shady Lady. With its retro 1920s ambiance, great music, and killer lunch and dinner menus, there’s a reason Esquire named this one of the 25 best bars in the U.S.
Sacramento offers a lot more shopping, entertainment and pizzazz than we can’t possibly fit in one blog. In addition, Lewis Apartment Communities has built some phenomenal communities like Evergreen Park and Homecoming at Creekside in the area. All the more reason to make Sacramento your next home.
